• Experts: promising opportunities due to digital transformation that to enhance the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises

    A specialized workshop was held in Asharqia Chamber- in cooperation with the Saudi Telecom Company- on Tuesday 31 July 2018 that entitled, "The role of digital transformation in support of small and medium enterprises," which discussed the topics related to digital and cloud services and cybersecurity services.

    It also discussed the importance and roles that are achieved by the digital transformation of SMEs owners in enhancing their competitiveness, efficiency and quality of performance in their facilities, which enhances the role of this sector in supporting the national economy according to the vision of 2030, revealing new services in the field of information technology and information security.

     

    The experts stressed that the telecom companies recently launched its activity in the world of information technology, in addition to specialization in the activity of communications, which gives small and medium-sized enterprises new and quality services, especially in the aspect of information technology and information security.

     

    In his speech at the workshop, a member of the Board of Directors of Asharqia Chamber and the Chairman of the Communications and Technology Committee, Nasser bin Rashid Al-Bajjash, said that in light of the Kingdom's great growth and modernization in its economic structure, the trend towards maximizing the roles and position of all economic sectors, especially the small and medium enterprises sector, which is accompanied by its economic value in GDP, it has a positive role that can not be overlooked in the process Development of the Kingdom, as the vision of the Kingdom of 2030 gave great interest to it, as it planned to increase its contribution to GDP to 35%, which is a great responsibility that requires our participation in achieving them.

     

    In this regard, Abdullah Al-Zafer, the director of cloud business development of STC, said that the company has initiated an initiative with the Saudi Small and Medium Enterprises Organization to provide a wide range of services that facilitate small businesses, reduce costs and meet many needs.

     

    He pointed out that the most important problems facing institutions is the absence of information in case of emergency such as hardware failure, or viruses attacks. The company, through partnerships with several international companies, provides information preservation services under these circumstances.

     

    Moreover, Jalal Safadi, STC's Internet Security Manager, addressed a number of risks facing small enterprises in the maintenance of information, which contribute to the occurrence of a total of losses on these facilities with less potential compared to large enterprises.

     

    The Director of Digital Solutions at STC, Abdulmalik Al-Houti, talked about a number of developments in the ICT sector, which have become part of human life in various fields.

    In the past, dealing with the Internet has been limited in terms of access to information, while the global technical development has enabled it to follow up and interact with the source of information, decision making. For example, the use of the Internet in the transport sector is no longer limited to follow-up shipments only, but follow-up and management and know the details of the shipment, and even separate fuel level in the truck or bus.

    He added that the future forecasts indicate that 7 devices per person are handled through the Internet. It was limited to the computer connected to the network, moved to the laptop, and then to the mobile phone, and will be dealing with the Internet in other sectors of service such as electricity and water, as well as before entering into the services of finance, business, transport and so on.

    And this is what necessitates the need to manage and develop it, and this is what is done by STC.​
